Getting accurate text from a scan
OCR (optical character recognition) reads letters from an image. Accuracy depends mostly on the picture: 300 DPI resolution, sharp focus, even lighting, dark text on a light background and a straight page all help. Photos taken at an angle or with shadows produce more mistakes. Crop away borders with the Image Cropper and straighten with the Image Rotator before you run it.
Always proofread the result
OCR can confuse similar shapes, such as 0 and O, 1 and l, or 5 and S, and may struggle with handwriting, stamps, small print and complex tables. Check names, amounts and dates against the original before relying on them. For a PDF full of scans, first split out the pages you need with Split PDF. If your PDF contains real digital text rather than a picture, PDF to Excel may be the better route for tables.
