Crop for the destination
Crop to the shape the place you are posting needs: square for many profile and feed images, 16:9 for video thumbnails and 1.91:1 for link previews. Cropping removes pixels around the edges, so it changes the composition, unlike resizing, which changes the whole image's dimensions.
Composition tips
Keep the main subject away from the very edge and leave breathing room, especially if platforms later add rounded corners or overlays. Crop first and resize second so you do not enlarge a small area. Afterwards compress with the Image Compressor, and if the photo is sideways, fix it with the Image Rotator.
