Quick answer:PDF to Excel extracts tabular data from a PDF by reading text coordinate positions, aligning them into rows and columns, and writing an .xlsx file. Works on digital PDFs with a text layer — not on scanned PDFs (use OCR first). Note: this tool sends your file to ToolsDock's server over HTTPS for conversion.

Convert PDF to Excel Securely

Unlike most tools on ToolsDock, this one cannot run in your browser. Reconstructing table structure from a PDF's raw text coordinates needs a document-processing engine that has no practical browser equivalent, so your file is sent over HTTPS to the ToolsDock conversion server, converted there, and streamed straight back to you as an .xlsx download.

If a document is sensitive enough that you would rather it never leave your device at all, use a tool that genuinely runs locally instead - Split PDF, Merge PDF and PDF to JPG all process files entirely in your browser and never transmit them anywhere.

Our mathematical extraction engine automatically scans the absolute positioning of text on the page, aligns them into rows and columns, and generates a valid Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) file that you can download immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded to your servers?

Yes. Unlike most ToolsDock tools, PDF to Excel cannot run in the browser, so your file is sent over HTTPS to the ToolsDock conversion server and the finished spreadsheet is streamed back to you. If you need a tool that never transmits your file, use Split PDF, Merge PDF or PDF to JPG, which run fully in your browser.

Will this work on scanned PDFs?

No. This tool reads the text layer inside a PDF, and a scanned page is an image with no text layer. Try our OCR to Text tool first to extract the text, or use a digital PDF that contains selectable text.

Is there a file size limit for PDF to Excel?

Yes, the uploader accepts PDFs up to 25 MB. If your file is larger, split it into smaller parts first with our Split PDF tool and convert each part separately.

Will my tables come out perfectly formatted in Excel?

It depends on how the table was built in the PDF. Clean tables with clear column alignment extract very well, while tables with merged cells, multi-line entries or heavy styling usually need a few minutes of cleanup in Excel.

What file format do I get back?

You get a standard .xlsx spreadsheet, which opens directly in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc and Apple Numbers.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF to Excel?

No. Remove the password first using our Unlock PDF tool, then upload the unlocked copy here.

Is the PDF to Excel converter free?

Yes, it is free with no sign-up and no watermark on the resulting spreadsheet.
