When Do You Actually Need a PNG?
If you have a photo saved as a JPG, why would you ever want to turn it into a PNG? Mostly, it comes down to editing and graphic design.
Unlike JPGs, which squish and throw away data every single time you save them, PNGs are a 'lossless' format. If you plan on opening an image multiple times to add text, draw on it, or create a meme, converting it to a PNG first ensures you won't slowly degrade the photo quality.
No Magic Transparency
There's a big misconception about image formats. A lot of people believe that if they turn a JPG into a PNG, the background will magically disappear.
